BabyJane Records is a small record label. We like to think of ourselves as an alternative to the major labels, both for artists who are recording, and for listeners who are interested in excellent music and sound. We don't confine ourselves to any particular genre or style - you will find an incredible diversity here. We are artist friendly and forward thinking. That means that we don't sucker musicians into lousy recording contracts. We have an open policy regarding contracts. Examples here.

BabyJane is not about making megabucks. It's about recording good music, and getting good music out there. We finance the recording process and pay for it by taking a percentage of sales which is far lower than any major label, and much lower than most independents. Our artists engage in a partnership with us toward the marketing and promotion of their work. That's it.

Why? Because we are artists ourselves and we want to put our energy towards creating great art which does not have to bend to the marketing pressures of big money which is financing its production. Because we're tired of hearing commercial radio which is becoming increasingly centralized and homogenous, and public radio which is marginalized or unavailable. And because now it's possible.
